Platform deep dive · Webflow

Our honest read on Webflow.

The cleanest design-to-handoff workflow on the market — when your CMS stays under 10k items and the team doesn't need a true member portal.

Best for
  • Marketing sites
  • Designer-led teams
  • Portfolio CMS
  • SaaS landing pages
Not for
  • CMS over 10k items
  • Complex e-commerce
  • Member portals
  • Multi-language at scale
We pick Webflow when design fidelity matters more than custom backend logic, and when at least one person on the team will own the CMS structure post-launch. Clients can edit content without breaking layouts — that's the killer feature most agencies undervalue when they recommend other platforms.

Webflow vs the alternatives

Side-by-side on the 10 dimensions clients actually ask about. No vendor spin — these numbers come from our own builds.

Dimension Webflow WordPress Framer Wix Squarespace
CMS items max 10,000 Unlimited 10,000 1,000 10,000
Designer freedom
Developer customization
E-commerce depth

Pricing at 50k visits $39/mo $30/mo* $30/mo $27/mo $23/mo
Time to launch 2–4 wks 4–8 wks 1–3 wks 1–2 wks 1–2 wks
Learning curve Medium Hard Easy Easy Easy
Migration friction High Low Medium High High

* WordPress pricing assumes managed hosting (Kinsta starter, ~$30/mo). Self-hosted on a $12/mo VPS is cheaper but adds ops overhead. Star ratings are our own based on production builds.

When we don’t recommend Webflow

Webflow is a great tool — for the right job. Here’s where we’d point you elsewhere, even when it costs us the project.

Need more than 10k CMS items?

WordPress or headless CMS

Webflow's CMS hard-caps at 10,000 items per collection. We've hit this on three studio portfolios already.

Multi-vendor marketplace?

Shopify Plus or BigCommerce

Webflow E-commerce is single-vendor only. No vendor splits, no commission tracking, no proper marketplace flow.

Member portal with role-based gating?

WordPress + MemberPress, or React + Supabase

Memberstack handles binary auth fine. Once you need editor / admin / viewer / billing roles, it gets fragile.

True multi-language at scale?

WordPress + Polylang

Webflow Localization is $9–$29 per locale / month and the editing UX gets clunky past 3 languages.

The stack we’d actually build

A real Webflow project rarely lives alone. Here’s the typical integration stack for a production build.

  • Core platform
  • Best-in-class integrations
  • Real-time sync

Total tooling cost: ~$54/mo + Webflow ($39/mo) = ~$93/mo for a B2B SaaS marketing site that handles auth, payments, and ops automation. You won’t ship that on a no-code-only Wix or Squarespace setup at any price.

What else we can build on Webflow

Webflow on its own ships marketing sites. Webflow plus a deliberate integration stack ships products. Here's the breadth of what we build beyond a standard marketing-site engagement.

The actual offer

Two ways we ship Webflow work.

The deliverable is the same — production-grade Webflow builds backed by ~9 years on the platform. What changes is whose name goes on the project. Pick the engagement model that fits.

For Agencies · White-label

Your name on it. Our hands on it.

We become your invisible Webflow team. You stay client-facing; we handle design, build, and delivery.

  • Custom Webflow builds to your Figma — or full Figma → Webflow end-to-end
  • Your branding on every deliverable; your client never sees our name
  • NDA signed pre-kickoff; collaboration inside your Slack and your Notion
  • Direct line to a senior dev — no handoff to junior offshore
  • Optional white-label maintenance retainer once sites go live

Engagement Hourly or fixed-project. Most agency builds run 2–8 weeks per site, depending on scope.

For End Clients · Direct

From kickoff to handoff. One team.

Full engagement: discovery, design, build, launch, and ongoing care. One point of contact, ~9 years on Webflow.

  • Discovery + content audit + scoped proposal in week 1
  • Figma design + Webflow build with weekly review cadence
  • CMS / admin training + handoff documentation at launch
  • Performance + SEO + accessibility baseline before sign-off
  • Optional care retainer for ongoing iteration after launch

Engagement Project-based or monthly retainer. Most direct engagements run 4–12 weeks end-to-end.

Not sure which model fits? Most engagements start with a 30-min scoping call where we figure that out together.

Run the Pressure Test

Common questions

How long does a Webflow build take?

Three to seven weeks for marketing sites; ten days for a focused launch page; longer for portfolio-heavy CMS builds. The “2–4 weeks” in the table above is the median — motion-heavy Awwwards-style launches sit at the top of that range, simple brochure sites at the bottom.

Webflow or Framer?

The comparison table above gives them similar ratings on designer freedom and performance, but they’re not interchangeable. Webflow wins when you have a marketing team that needs CMS independence and a clean structured handoff. Framer wins when motion is the headline and the team’s small enough that one designer-developer owns it end-to-end. The honest call usually comes down to who’ll edit it after launch.

Can you make our Webflow site rank?

Yes — Webflow’s bones are SEO-fine. Schema, OG, sitemaps, redirects all live in the platform (the 4/5 SEO control rating above is honest, not generous). The thing that holds Webflow sites back from ranking is usually the content strategy, not the platform. We’ll flag both during scoping.
