Platform deep dive · Framer

Our honest read on Framer.

The closest a no-code tool has gotten to a real design canvas — and the fastest path from Figma to live site when motion is the headline.

Best for
  • Designer portfolios
  • Product launches
  • Awwwards-style sites
  • Solo founders + small teams
Not for
  • Multi-author CMS
  • E-commerce beyond 20 SKUs
  • Heavy form workflows
  • Enterprise SEO at scale
Framer is the right call when motion design is the differentiator and the team is small enough that one designer-developer owns it end-to-end. It's the wrong call when the marketing team needs CMS independence — Framer's CMS is fine, but its editing UX hasn't caught up to Webflow yet. For the right project, nothing ships faster.

When we don’t recommend Framer

Framer is a great tool — for the right job. Here’s where we’d point you elsewhere, even when it costs us the project.

Marketing team publishing weekly?

Webflow (better CMS editor UX)

Framer's CMS works, but the editing experience still feels like a developer tool, not a content tool. Webflow's editor mode is built for content people; Framer's is built for designers.

More than 20 SKUs e-commerce?

Shopify

Framer's commerce add-on is built for "buy this one thing" launch pages, not for catalogs. If you have a SKU grid, you need a real store.

Membership / gated content portal?

Webflow + Memberstack, or WordPress

Framer doesn't have native gating. You'd wire in third-party tools that work better in Webflow's ecosystem.

Multi-language site at scale?

Webflow or WordPress

Framer's localization is workable for 2–3 languages. Past that, the editing UX gets cumbersome and the per-locale pricing adds up fast.

The stack we’d actually build

A real Framer project rarely lives alone. Here’s the typical integration stack for a production build.

Framer stack architecture Framer at the center, with 4 integration satellites connected by data flows. Framer Frontend + CMS Cal.com Booking · Calendar $15/mo Loops Transactional email $15/mo Fillout Forms · Surveys $19/mo Stripe Checkout · One-off 2.9% + 30¢
  • Core platform
  • Best-in-class integrations
  • Real-time sync

Total tooling cost: ~$49/mo + Framer ($25/mo) = ~$74/mo for a launch site with booking, email capture, and one-time checkout. That’s the cheapest “real” stack we know of for a product launch with credible payment + scheduling flows.

What else we can build on Framer

Framer ships fast out of the box. The work that turns "fast" into "production-grade" is what we do on top of it. Here's what we build beyond a standard launch page.

The actual offer

Two ways we ship Framer work.

The deliverable is the same — production-grade Framer builds backed by ~9 years on the platform. What changes is whose name goes on the project. Pick the engagement model that fits.

For Agencies · White-label

Your name on it. Our hands on it.

We become your invisible Framer team. You stay client-facing; we handle design, build, and delivery.

  • Custom Framer builds to your Figma — or full Figma → Framer end-to-end
  • Your branding on every deliverable; your client never sees our name
  • NDA signed pre-kickoff; collaboration inside your Slack and your Notion
  • Direct line to a senior dev — no handoff to junior offshore
  • Optional white-label maintenance retainer once sites go live

Engagement Hourly or fixed-project. Most agency builds run 2–8 weeks per site, depending on scope.

For End Clients · Direct

From kickoff to handoff. One team.

Full engagement: discovery, design, build, launch, and ongoing care. One point of contact, ~9 years on Framer.

  • Discovery + content audit + scoped proposal in week 1
  • Figma design + Framer build with weekly review cadence
  • CMS / admin training + handoff documentation at launch
  • Performance + SEO + accessibility baseline before sign-off
  • Optional care retainer for ongoing iteration after launch

Engagement Project-based or monthly retainer. Most direct engagements run 4–12 weeks end-to-end.

Not sure which model fits? Most engagements start with a 30-min scoping call where we figure that out together.

Run the Pressure Test

Common questions

How long does a Framer build take?

One to three weeks for a 5–7 page marketing site if the brand is decided and copy is mostly written. The “1–3 wks” in the table above is the fastest of any platform we work with — but it depends on having a clear brief upfront. Where Framer builds slip is when design discovery happens in parallel with build (true of any platform). For a product launch with motion-design ambition, we plan 2–3 weeks.

Framer or Webflow?

The comparison table above gives them similar designer-freedom scores (5/5 each), but they diverge on CMS UX. Framer when the team is small, motion is the headline, and the site won’t grow past ~20 pages. Webflow when there’s a marketing team that publishes regularly, the CMS structure matters, or you need granular SEO control across hundreds of pages. Both are excellent — the choice is about who’ll maintain it after launch.

Will a Framer site rank?

For branded queries, marketing pages, and 20-page content sites — yes, easily. The 4/5 SEO rating above is honest; Framer renders server-side, supports schema, and handles meta tags properly. For SEO-heavy publishing (long-tail content sites with hundreds of posts), Framer’s CMS editing UX becomes the bottleneck before the SEO does. That’s a WordPress or headless build, not a Framer one.
